LA Times Writer Steve Lopez and the movie The Soloist

Steve Lopez is a columnist for the Los Angeles Times, where he first wrote a series of enormously popular columns about Nathaniel Ayers. His book, based on his experiences with Ayers, The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music, was published earlier this year. He is the author of three novels: Third and Indiana, The Sunday Macaroni Club and In the Clear. He is also the author of Land of Giants, a collection of columns from his days at The Philadelphia Inquirer. He has won numerous national awards for his work at several publications, including Time Magazine and The Philadelphia Inquirer. Lopez, the father of three children, currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Alison, and their daughter, Caroline.

The movie The Soloist (2009) is based on a book by Steve Lopez. Mr. Lopez is portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in the movie.
